Appeal to aid the European prisoners in Moroccan prisons

The Committee of the families of European prisoners detained in Moroccan prisons publishes a new list of names of those detained (with the name of the prison and their nationality), who signed the appeal for help on 30 November.

On behalf of the Committee of the families of European prisoners detained in Morocco we send you this communiqué to denounce the contempt and neglect displayed by those responsible for the fate and the living conditions of our brothers, husbands, sons and friends. Even their three-day hunger strike of 22 to 24 October, held precisely to alert the authorities to the grave situation they endure, has changed nothing. Some are innocent and have been tortured. Most live in inhuman detention conditions.  They are subject to extortion, which costs us a great deal, and suffer in many other ways which they have continued to denounce, at the cost (for many) of their bodily integrity.

We are today many families – Spanish, French, Belgian, Dutch, Italian and Portuguese, with our main centre in Brussels, led by activist Luk Vervaet (vervaetluk@gmail.com tel: 0032 478 653 378).

We will continue determinedly to expose the responsibility of politicians, governments and the EU in what is today becoming evidence of complicity in torture and acquiescence in appalling conditions.  For years, many detainees have been slowly killed by the silence and indifference of these players.

We mark the approach of World Human Rights Day on 10 December to sound the alarm on the conditions of life for these prisoners and for us, their families.
